Champurrado is a warm chocolate drink that’s kind of like hot chocolate. But this drink is thickened up with masa. In my recipe I’m using maseca for those that can’t get fresh masa.

Cinnamon and piloncillo are added to give it more flavor. I’ve also added vanilla and a pinch of sea salt. The reason for the salt it to help liven up the flavors.

The traditional champurrado recipe doesn’t use milk. You could omit it if you like. But milk does add another level of flavor as well as creaminess. You can use whole fat milk or any plant based milk you like.
