Richmond, VA – Birth in Color RVA is pleased to announce the the 2nd Annual Black Breastfeeding Week RVA, celebrating breastfeeding within the African-American community. The local campaign occurs in conjunction with National Black Breastfeeding Week, which takes place across the United States August 25 – 31. Black Breastfeeding Week RVA is sponsored by Birth in Color RVA & Supporters
The Black Breastfeeding Week RVA Celebration will take place at The 17th Annual Happily Natural Day, a celebration of black consciousness that promotes cultural awareness, holistic health and social change throughout the Black Diaspora. Festival attendees can expect music, culinary workshops, demonstrations, vendors, urban agriculture and more.
This years Black Breastfeeding Week RVA will highlight the challenges and triumphs of breastfeeding while black. Reminding Black Moms that they are a part of something Bigger! It’s bigger than just feeding your baby, it’s honoring yourself and your ancestors, it’s reducing your chances of breast and ovarian cancer, it’s saving money, it’s bonding with your infant and child! You are a part of something Bigger!!
“Black Breastfeeding Week is so integral and essential because, even today, black women do not breastfeed at the same rate as their white counterparts.
Breastfeeding parents, family members, and advocates are invited to participate in a Latch-On, and Photo Shoot that will take place at 6:45 pm.
